1. Purpose

This statement outlines the professional boundaries and scope of practice of Busy Corner Books and Writing Well.

It exists to ensure clarity, safety, and mutual understanding for all who engage with the work.

Busy Corner Books offers reflective, creative, and educational services designed to support insight, learning, and personal development within clearly defined professional limits.

2. Nature of the Work

Services may include:

  • 1:1 reflective facilitation or mentoring

  • Structured take-away courses with optional mentoring (via Teams/Zoom)

  • Group workshops and courses (in person or online)

  • Organisational or staff-based reflective work

  • Written constructive and analytical feedback on writing, as agreed

Engagement may feel personally meaningful or reflective. Participation is always voluntary and choice-led.

Where appropriate, a written agreement or contract may be issued outlining boundaries, expectations, and mutual responsibilities.

3. What This Work Is Not

Busy Corner Books does not provide:

  • Psychotherapy

  • Counselling

  • Diagnosis or treatment of mental health conditions

  • Crisis intervention or emergency services

Services are educational and developmental in nature.

Participants are responsible for maintaining appropriate medical, psychological, or therapeutic support where needed. Prescribed medication or professional treatment should not be altered without medical advice.

4. Participant Responsibility

Participants are encouraged to:

  • Engage at a pace that feels appropriate

  • Take responsibility for their own decisions and participation

  • Exercise personal judgement in how material is applied

No individual is required to share personal material. Silence and reflective observation are respected forms of participation.

5. Emotional Process

Reflective and creative work can sometimes bring personal insight or emotional awareness.

Participants remain responsible for monitoring their own wellbeing and for seeking specialist support outside Busy Corner Books where necessary.

Busy Corner Books does not manage crisis situations but may signpost to appropriate services.

6. Faith and Inclusivity

The work of Busy Corner Books is informed by Christian values such as compassion, dignity, and integrity.

However:

  • Participation does not require religious belief

  • No persuasion or expectation of faith commitment is involved

  • Services are open to individuals of all backgrounds

Spiritual reflection, where relevant, is invitational and never imposed.

7. Professional Boundaries

To maintain ethical practice:

  • Clear professional boundaries are upheld

  • Power and influence are handled responsibly

  • Emotional, spiritual, financial, or relational coercion is not permitted

  • Work is supported by professional supervision and reflective accountability
