Ethical Framework & Statement of Practice

1. Purpose

Busy Corner Books exists to support thoughtful, ethical, and creative work rooted in reflection, clarity, and care for the human experience.

Busy Corner Books believe writing, learning, and storytelling can improve insight, resilience, and growth when offered with integrity and respect. Busy Corner Books do not provide therapy. The CPD and PD courses may feel cathartic and therapeutic. However, they are not therapy. This is because we aim to help a person discover their own authenticity and congruence (their own true self) so that they can move forward in whatever area they choose. Empowerment, growth of own strengths and independence is the key. Given the correct facilitation training, delivered by an accountable and ethical professional, the CPD Courses can be used as part of a therapy package within the work a professional uses to help their client's reach a healthier place.

Our work includes facilitating your own process, or teaching you how to facilitate your client's/patients process, using therapeutic creative writing techniques and reflective practice to encourage change and growth. Across all areas, Busy Corner Books are committed to ethical transparency and respect for human dignity. This work has been developed through 25+ years experience in counselling/psychotherapy, ethical, accountable and professional practice, communication skills, non-verbal communication, language patterns, unconscious and gestalt style processing; along with over 20 years experience in writing and publishing our own and others work into mainstream publishing, and marketing.

2. Core Ethical Principles

Our work is guided by the following principles:

Respect for the Individual

Each person's voice, pace, boundaries, and autonomy are honoured. Participation is voluntary. No one is required to share personal material. For a participant to attain better results from taking part in our courses, honesty of their experience and truthfulness are paramount to growth. The more investment a participant makes, the better their results.

Change is never expected to be completely comfortable. However, should a participant require further help, we provide a list of self-help contacts and are always here to answer questions and speak on Teams. We offer two Teams meetings for our courses, one at the beginning for a participant to 'check in' with how the participant is feeling and a 'check out' to finish the course process along with feedback from any written work submitted. These meetings via Teams are optional. Again, for the better results, making some form of effort regarding communication aids change and movement within a person's life. It also teaches one about 'beginnings' and 'endings'. Good boundaries for life.

Clarity and Honesty

We communicate clearly about what we offer, what it involves, and any associated costs. We do not obscure fees, expectations, or limitations. We also expect a mutual agreement regarding clarity and honesty. No one is ever judged and everything shared is in strict confidence.

Care Without Coercion

We aim to create spaces that feel safe and supportive, without pressure to disclose, perform, or engage beyond one's comfort. The reason we encourage sharing how a participant 'feels' at each stage, is to help open and close the process with integrity.

Integrity in Practice

Our work is informed by reflective, faith driven and person-centred, ethically grounded approaches. Practice is regularly reviewed to ensure responsibility and congruence.

Inclusivity and Accessibility

Busy Corner Books seeks to welcome diverse backgrounds, beliefs, and abilities. Participation does not require adherence to any particular worldview.

3. Scope and Boundaries of Practice

Busy Corner Books does not provide:

  • Therapy or counselling (except listening skills, which are part of good communication)

  • Medical or clinical treatment

  • Diagnosis or psychological intervention

  • Crisis or emergency services

As stated above, our work may feel reflective or emotionally meaningful, but it remains educational, creative, and developmental in nature.

Participants are responsible for their own wellbeing and are encouraged to seek appropriate professional support where necessary. We may signpost to external services when appropriate.

4. Trauma-Aware and Consent-Based Practice

We recognise that writing and reflection can sometimes touch on personal material.

Therefore:

  • Participation is always by choice

  • Individuals may pause or withdraw at any time

  • Personal disclosure is never required - only by choice

  • Emotional exposure is not treated as progress

We do not encourage participants to revisit trauma and do not position writing spaces as therapeutic intervention.

5. Confidentiality and Safeguarding

Personal information and shared material are treated with discretion.

Full details of data handling are outlined in the separate Privacy Policy.

6. Accountability and Professional Reflection

We are committed to ongoing ethical development through:

  • Regular reflective review

  • Continuing professional development

  • Appropriate external supervision or peer consultation where relevant

  • Responsiveness to feedback

Accountability is understood as an ongoing responsibility rather than a static credential.

7. Transparency Around Fees

Services are charged in order to sustain ethical, prepared, and responsible work.

We aim to:

  • State pricing clearly

  • Outline what is included

  • Avoid manipulative or pressure-based sales practices

Fees reflect time, preparation, and expertise. They are not a measure of personal worth.

8. Faith and Worldview

Busy Corner Books is founded by an individual whose work is informed by Christian faith and values such as compassion, humility, and integrity.

However:

  • Participation does not require any faith commitment

  • Beliefs are not imposed

  • Diverse perspectives are respected

Faith-informed work is offered with openness and sensitivity.

Respectful feedback is welcomed.
