Many well-intentioned leaders, mentors and facilitators unknowingly create dependency rather than empowerment. This short professional development course explores the ethical foundations of facilitation, helping practitioners support growth without controlling, directing, or over-influencing those they serve.
Through guided reflection, discussion, and practical application, participants will examine the importance of boundaries, power dynamics, responsibility, and ethical awareness when working with individuals or groups.
Rather than positioning yourself as the expert with answers, this course encourages a facilitative approach that honours autonomy, dignity, and personal insight. Participants will learn how to create environments where people can think, process, and discover their own voice safely.
This course is suitable for professionals who work with people in coaching, mentoring, ministry, education, counselling, writing groups, or community leadership.
Course Structure
The course includes:
• Two live online sessions (via Microsoft Teams) – guided teaching, discussion and reflection
• A private learning journal – to record insights and personal ethical reflections
• A written assignment – demonstrating understanding of ethical facilitation principles
• A practical demonstration of application in your own context
• Follow-up questions or clarification if required
All assessments are reviewed to ensure participants can apply ethical awareness in real-world settings.
